Located in rural Rose City, the business took off in 1985 when Steve and Eileen Goodwin started the first branch of the company, Rose City Canopy. At that time Steve was a struggling farmer. After working for a company that installed canopies, he followed an opportunity that would open the doors to many successes and with many new opportunities to come.
Rose City BBQ
Rose City BBQ sauce is made by Steve Goodwin and family. He grew up in the livestock business and for years made bbq sauce for hog roast parties of his own and for family, friends, and neighbors. They all loved it and told him he should be selling it, so he decided to market the BBQ sauce. After years of refinement, the recipe is ready for market.
Steve wanted a BBQ sauce that was thick, so it stayed on the meat, but didn't burn. Also he wanted a BBQ sauce that you could marinate the meat by slow cooking. The BBQ sauce does not have liquid smoke in it, so it gives it a sweet taste with a tang. Not only do people use it on pork and chicken but they put it on hamburgers, use it for sloppy joes, and they even put it on steak. Some folks use it just like ketchup.
Rose City Bar-B-Cue is an up and coming company in Rose City, MN, created by Steve Goodwin along with his daughter and manager Tania Ruckheim. We started the company in January 2002, however Steve has been cooking and making the Bar-B-Cue sauce for over 30 years. Our product is in approximately 70 local grocery stores and dining establishments. We also have two distributors and want to expand our product.
Electric Company
Rose City Electric was established in 2003 to fill the need for electricians on the canopies that were being sold and built by the canopy company. We soon grew to a company fulfilling all electrical needs from residential house wiring to commercial lighting and signage, lake cabins and new commercial sites. We do it all!
Sign Company
After years of our canopy crews doing complete site modifications. A very helpful customer asked "Since you are on site doing everything else - cant you do the sign work also?"
And the sign company was born! Insert a few large boom trucks, small and medium bucket trucks, and bring in someone who knows the industry (Todd Tolifson, who after 3 years in the field started his 17 year management career.) Todd has been with Rose City Sign for 7 years now.
Vinyl Company
To meet the needs of our customers the decision was made in 2007 to bring in John Kron to run our in house vinyl graphics shop. We added on a 390 square foot office area to house with new equipment and work table. We saw steady growth for the first two years and quickly realized we were growing out of our current space. In the spring of 2010 we began construction on our new, two story, 5,580 square foot shop
Our new office is complete with office space, vinyl production area, and a vinyl install bay large enough to decal a semi-truck and trailer! We moved into the new space in the fall of 2010 and look forward to many more years serving our customers.
